What's the Hottest New Slow Cooker?
Presto Nomad Traveling 8 Quart Slow Cooker
Slow cookers have struggled recently to compete with electric pressure cookers, which can also double as slow cookers. Some would say not as good as the real thing though. With that said, the slow cookers' convenience is indisputable. You can throw a few ingredients in a pot in the morning and return home to something with great flavor that the whole family can enjoy. The thing that really stands out with slow cookers is portability. The Presto Nomad was made to make transporting your food safer and easier. That’s what makes this slow cooker perfect for tailgating or visiting family for the holidays!
It may look like a retro cooler, but it actually functions as a slow cooker. Its key feature of innovation lies in its portability. Taking the Presto Nomad on the road is as simple as flipping up the handle which locks the lid in place and tucking the power cord into its slot and it's ready to go! Its compact size allows it to easily be stowed away in a trunk or carried by hand.
The unique, low, cooler-like body of the Nomad prevents tip-overs when traveling. This slow cooker features a cool-to-touch outer layer, removable insert, large flat lid with a glass window, rotatable dial for heating preference, and the huge handle that clamps the lid shut. It also has a detachable spoon rest and a tiny dry erase board and marker to let everyone know what delicious food is inside!
The Nomad is heated with an element that runs around its sidewall. This allows for the heat to be more evenly distributed. Meaning you won’t have to spend much time stirring the food to keep it from scorching.
The majority of this product is made of plastic, while the internal crock is composed of nonstick aluminum. There is also glass in the lid to allow for easy viewing of the food as its being cooked.
This extra-large 8-quart size will hold enough food to feed a crowd. It's great for soups, stews, casseroles, chicken, roasts and more. The Nomad weighs 8.5 lbs and is designed to be used with 120V 60HZ AC electricity. The measurements of the outer body are 12.2 x 15.8 x 8.5 inches.
The Presto Nomad offers Warm, Low and High settings and features. There’s not a huge difference between the Low and High settings. On the High setting, more energy is produced to heat the food both faster and a little hotter than on the Low setting. If you were to pour water into the Nomad, it would take over five hours on Low to bring four quarts to about 200 degrees Fahrenheit, while it would take only 3.75 hours on the High setting. The Warm setting does just what it says, it keeps your food warm.
The Nomad isn't necessarily the best slow cooker out there. It doesn't have the programmability of most modern models, but it also doesn’t work noticeably better or worse than other models. It simply has the basics down. Head-to-head testing isn't the point here. What’s so captivating about it is its complete rethink of slow-cooker design. The Nomad is revolutionizing the use of slow cookers!
No more rattling lid and or having to hold it between someone's feet so the lid doesn't fall off in the car. There are some newer slow cookers that have clips to hold their lids in place, but the Nomad's low center of gravity and one-handed ease make it much better suited to travel.
